Has anyone taken their van to Nhulunbuy?
Local police say you won't get a van in. Given BT's aren't quite in that category, has anyone got further advice?
We do have a 'sponsor' in Nhulunbuy

I'm told that it isn't a matter of physical capability of the van (even 2 wheel drive cars can get through most of the Dry Season) but rather that you need a permit from the Northern Land Councila nd they are no longer issuing them for caravans of any ilk.

Thanks everyone and for those direct messages.
Our current thinking is to either fly in or just drive, without the van.
Either way, we have accomodation in Nhulunbuy so no point flogging the van just to say we travelled "that road'
Permits would be the least of anyone's worries
Thanks again
David

Sounds like a wise choice David

When we were in the region, we were unaware of the bans on caravans and thought BTs had been through in the past, but looked at that length of road and chose not to go.

Hi David and Anne,
We were at Katherine a couple of years ago ready to tackle the road. We had a sponsor. The couple that had arranged the sponsor chickened out as there had been late rains and the road had only just opened again. It was early July.At the time they said there was only one crossing that we need worry about. They had a Roadstar. We had 2 BTs rearing to go. We are planning to go there this year. We will be very disappointed if they are not allowing vans.
Regards
Dianne and Ron.
