Just an update on the whole tow tug discussion on hauling a BT.
We took delivery of our 21 ' full size last Oct 22. Love it!
There are a few things Bushtracker could improve on and a few things we have dealt with ourselves because we live a little outback, about 700km from Brisbane and the sunny coast.
Our biggest thing has been towing.
We spent $6000 on a GVM upgrade on our LC Toyota Ute only to find it though a great vehicle was not at all suited to handle the BT.
We went for the Chev Silverado LTZ 22 model boasting 4.6 t towing with all the bells and whiskers trailering application etc etc.
We were more than a little set back.
The Chev is a great car with more than enough towing power and interior comfort and just simply looks great and we do love it but.....
The suspension is anything but 4.5 t even with no trailer its sloppy to say the least.
We tried air bags but this did not stop the boating on rougher roads and yes this includes most of the Warrego highway...
After much research we fitted Dobinsons 300kg -500kg constant load leaf to the rear and 60 kg coil with overall 50mm lift plus IMF Dobinson shocks all round. Bloody amazing to say the least!
The heavier suspension does make a difference to your empty Ute's ride but we are very impressed with the result for an investment of a bit over $3500
We also added a Shocker hitch $1300 which for the life of me is the best thing since grandmas ANZAC biscuits. Just our absolutely our honest observation for anyone considering tow tugs and we firmly believe a Toyota Ute is not suitable for a 21' full height and width BT.
Happy travelling.
