This orchid which grows to about 25cm high. The flower has a distinctive shiny, patterned appearance. The colours on the single flower range from a network of green, to black edging on the dorsal sepals. The constantly moving labellum protrudes, displaying a sparse yellow fringe and black end. The lateral sepals are widely splayed. Each flower is about 4cm long, laterally compressed, except for the lateral sepals. Growing in disturbed sandy soil, roadside.&lt;br /&gt;

Unusual striped flowers make the jug orchid unmistakeable.  The plant grows up to about half a meter tall with several elongated leaves clasping the flowering stem. Usually only a single flower is produced on each stem, though occasionally 2 or 3 flowers are seen. The green and white colouring of the flowers changes to include red and brown tones as the flower ages.

Jug orchids are found throughout the SW of WA from Geraldton to Israelite Bay, although they are most common in the wetter forest areas.

The species name "recurva" means "bent" referring to the tips of the lateral sepals.&lt;br /&gt;
