For some time now there has been a rumour going around about a new Nissan diesel engine. I was talking to a rep the other day and the word is it is a 4.5 litre 6 potter based on the current 3 litre TC Intercooled technology. If it performs as well as the 3 it will be a sure winner. Combined with the Nissan indestructable gear train it will give the Tojo a big fright. Will not be available for another 18 months yet he believes. The recent upgrade of the 4.2 was to improve the emissions. I just thought I'd mention this in case someone was looking at a new vehicle in the future as I will be. Nomad

Nomad Sounds good BUT will it be available with auto transmission??? I have considered the 4.2 but with no auto that's the only problem I have. (Swmbo would prefer an auto next time). Regards Jeff

Hopefully the auto will be sourced from their american diesel program. No auto in the states equals no sales. With power figures of 175kw and 510nm (my guess) and 2550kg ..... it might need an auto to tame it !!?? Anthony

The 3 has an auto option which is much nicer than the manual so I am told. I guess the new engine will have that option also, maybe the excellent tiptronic as on the 4.8 petro.

Would be disappointing for me because when I was
looking for a replacement for my 4.5 petrol Patrol only a few months ago,
dealers told me that no new diesel model was on the horizon. Nevertheless, my
new LC 4.2 TD Sahara is a beauty.

I shared a dining table with a Nissan service manager last weekend and he is pretty sure the new engine will be 4.8........it's getting better all the time. He was pretty coy about it at first when I mentioned it. Impossible to keep secrets these days with the internet and also UHF CRS radio. This is where I first heard the rumour when a few truckies were having a chat on 40. Ernie
