One of the major expenses when travelling is obviosuly the cost of fuel - so has anyone found a good fuel card that offers genuine savings. I once did some research on this, and I recall that Shell even offered some kind of "base" pricing which provided a guaranteed maximum price even when fuel was purchased in remote country areas. (You bought your fuel on the card, and the account was then invoiced monthly). But when I did this research about 2 years ago, you needed to have a minimum of 5 vehicles and/or a business to qualify. So, is there a card available that I don't know about it? Phil

Hi Phil,
We do use a Shell Card and have 2 Vehicles on it only but we
are a registered business - so that condition may apply to get an account- not
sure on that point.
When we did the Nullarbor in 2000 we found that the Shell
Stations did not comply with the 'agreed price' and had notices stuck to the
bowsers stating that they pay more for the fuel in remote areas than Shells
agreed price to Shell card holders. Otherwise we do get minimal discount
on fuel but usually nothing like the 4c discount offered with Coles or Woolies
food purchases and Shell outlets will not honour the 4c discount with food
purchases on top of our 'agreed price' charge card only on cash or credit
purchases.
We only use it for convenience and record keeping purposes and
it is a cheap card to use with a $3- per car charge per month service
fee.
Cheers, Helen
