This is a general inquiry to determine if other F250 owners have purchased the Extended Warranty and if you think that it is a worthwhile investment. The 100,000 kms is on top of the standard 100,000 kms and Ford have quoted: 12 months / 100,000km $855.00 24 months / 100,000km $895.00 36 months / 100,000km $985.00 Regards, Dusky

Dusky, interesting, your quoted prices on extended warranty. With our homework we have looked at the extended warranty as well, and were told it would be total of 6 years (3 years over the initial 3 year or 100,000ks - whichever comes first) and a further 60,000ks (total being 160,000ks) Price we were quoted $995- BUT after this quote were told by another dealer that F250's are regarded by Ford as 'special vehicles' and this other dealers quote was $1250-!!! Still if your only using the Effie for towing and not as only vehicle 6 years is a long time if something untoward went wrong down the track, the way we looked at it is IF you updated later the extended warranty MAY be an advantage- selling privately at least. We have been told the Ford extended warrenty is better than other after market insurance policys that are available BUT your servicing and record of servicing is paramount in the long term to prove you've done all the right things...... Also, from what we have been told you dont have to buy the extra insurance immediately but there is a cut off period k's or time..not sure... check that out to be sure. Cheers, Helen

Dusky, I go hot and cold on the extended warranty ...one month, yeah good idea ..another month, nah why bother !! There is no doubting parts for large turbo diesels are expensive especially in relation to major breakdown .... turbo, gearbox, injectors etc. Fortunately major breakdown in modern turbo diesels is rare under 250,000k plus if cared for and maintained. There is a slow trickle of parts availble for the F250's from sources other than Ford and at much better prices. Two years ago I got side steps at half the price from American Imports rather than Ford. Some ancillary equipment is available ...water pumps, alternators etc. Brian and I discussed it some time back and depending on the problem they might say its normal wear and tear and not pay ? The onus might be on you to fight for your case to get it repaired ? Read the small print for sure !!! Personally I think $1000 is pretty good value to extend a factory warranty another 3 yrs and 100,000k's and I'd treat it as a bit of an insurance policy. You have 3 yrs to decide if you are the original owner ... I have 8 months left on my warranty so better start thinking about it, again !! This month I'm thinking get it !! Anthony, Anthony !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two week's ago it was nahhhh Now I'm confused and that don't take much. PS. EGT Brisbane/Goldcoast Cruise at 100kph 250 c to 350 c. Coolangatta/ Syd at 100 kph 300 c to 400 c. Under top load, best I could get it to 475 c. Temp can change at 50 c per second.(must have the probe in the right spot) For shut down it can cool from 350 c to 200 c in 3 to 5 seconds and 200 c to 110 c in 5 minutes on turbo timer. All look nice and safe and low, lets get us a Diablo, and try again. ( Morehorsepowergrin ) Graham PPS. Home and hate it, we want to go again !!! OH heck we will, leave in two weeks

When I went to Ford to get a quote on extended warranty they gave me figures that were much higher than those quoted. I was told that the vehicle must have less than 90,000km on clock when policy is taken out. In my case I was on 85,000km after just over 2 years and to extend the warranty up to the maximum milage of either 140,000 or 160,000 km but I think it was the 140,000 (not sure which it was now) was going to cost me $1600 approx. I didn't do it as that much money for such a small number of km wasn't worth it in my book. You should also be away that a number of parts have less km on them than the 100,000. For instance the brake rotors are only 45,000km. Brian

Dusky, It is interesting how different Ford dealers give such different information. The pamphlet that I was given quoted figures like extending it by 12 months or 20,000km (or similar, it was 4 months ago and I haven't got it now), 24 months or 40,000km or 36months or 60,000, and it would expire when the first of these was reached. It did have a stipulation that it had to be taken out before 90,000km. You would think that the official FORD extended warranty would have a price set by Ford and not be up to a dealer to give a discount, wouldn't you. My vehicle was purchased in March 2002, and now has 102,000km on it so I would have been limited to the Km travelled, and in my case I didn't think it was worth the money they were asking (about $1600). As for insurance I am a member of the HF radio VKS 737 network and I have my insurance through their broker and it costs around $800 including 1 free windscreen claim. Ford Insurance seems very expensive to me. Brian
