As of about 2 weeks ago both providers have completed software upgrades and managed to 'marry' the last of the installed cards to the decoder boxes which means that the cards cannot be used in any other decoder box. All future installations will come with the cards married to the decoder boxes from the factory. For those of you contemplating sat. tv for your BT, you will need to take the decoder box from home with the card installed. If you have purchased an Optus Aurora card you are not limited to a particular decoder box as long as the box supports IRDETO1 encryption or you use an IRDETO 1 CAM. If you use a CAM, try to get hold of version 2.09 as these run cooler than earlier versions and are less likely to warp the card. Any questions in this regard, I'l be glad to assist at Copeton. Regards, David

David www.sattv.com.au is the business from which we purchased our satellite system. My advice is that: the firmware that checks the card/box serial number is in the provider box, not the card. That the Red Foxtel card and the Chucky Austar card run Irdeto 1/2 encription and these cards do not have the memory or capability to check/verify a box serial number. That they work in any Irdeto1 (Aurora) or Irdeto2 (Foxtel Red/Austar) capable decoder. Andy

Andy,
I know David Hindin quite well and I understand the basis of your
information. Certainly what you say was correct in the past, it is not
accurate now. The cards are married to the boxes from both Austar and
Foxtel. They do check that the matching ids are present before sending
further signals. Unless you have personally experienced this independence of
card and box in the past few weeks, I would not accept is as gospel.
We can continue this discussion, including Aurora card independent FTA
reception at Copeton. You may be surprised what can I show you.
David

David According to the the SAT TV Principal the "genuine" card will work with the eMtech200 et al boxes but the Austar/Foxtel boxes will not work with the "counterfeit" card. The boxes are thus I assume married to the (genuine) cards. Andy

Andy,
So called 'counterfeit cards' better known as Gold cards ceased working 6
months ago when the encryption was changed, won't go into details here. I
was referring to genuine cards, these are married to the provider boxes.

Who is SAT TV Principal ?

Good news folks, with a firmware update to my emTech decoder boxes, I can use an OEM Austar card in an emTech200 and 300 PVR box.
The benefit is that I can switch seemlessly between all the Aurora free-to-air channels abd the Foxtel/Austar channels.
So much for their marriage of cards and boxes!
No need to carry an pay tv provider decoder box in the BT anymore either.

The Austar card also works ok in the emTech150 IR decoder box.
