Not sure of the exact date. But I know that in March 2000, they told me they wouldn't be releasing one.
That's why I bought the Lexus V8
From memory, it was about 6 months later that the turbo diesel 100 series hit the market (bless their little hearts and souls!)

The T/D cruiser we had was manufactured around September 2000. We bought it in March 2001 and the sneaky buggers at the Toyota dealership in Mornington, conveniently forgot to mention that it was a previous year model and reduce the price accordingly.
If you are buying a new one early in the new year, make sure you check the build date, as they depreciate very quickly depending an year of build.

Yep, Motley's right. The TD came out in early 2001. I think Toyota were trying to flog the V8 when the 100 series started in about June 1999, but the word soon got out as to how thirsty they were and the V8 sales dropped. I looked at it then but it was over $80,000 and the Diesel was $63,000 - no problem to spend $3,500 on an after market turbo for the increase in power/torque and 13l/100km instead of 23!!
Compare the prices now ....TD at $72k and V8 petrol at under $60k...What the hell was (is) going on?

According to "redbook.com.au" the TD was released in Oct 2000.
This is a good site to look at if you want to know which vehicle was released when and how much they are worth now.
