in nswan excellentsource of free sites are available in state forests
there are 18 maps of forest in nsw, 17 of which are useful
they show designated camp sites special reserves lockouts & picnic spots many of which can be excellent places to stay
camp sites & picnic spot are often by water but they can be overgrown sometimes
the maps show most of the major roads in the forest including thier names which is very useful
the roads are made for logging trucks so there tends to be enough room for turning etc however if logging is active beware
the maps are available from state forests or most tourist offices make sure you get the current version about $10
at some of the more popular sites firewood may mean a drive up the road others near saw mills may have wood supplied
anything similar in other states ???
merry xmas
