We are considering the purchase of a satellite phone, so we are able to communicate back home while away. The use of data transfer would be an advantage, both providers have benefits however before our purchase has anybody some got some first hand experience with either handsets / providers

Hi
We have had the Globalstar for about 2 years we do not use data transfer just calls, the hand set is big and bulky and they are not that cheap.
On the positive side it works 98% of the time when there is no other coverage, you are told of these windows of black, but like picking up your BT do you hear it all.
Would I buy it again YES nice piece of mind, and it did get used to help to solve a problem for a mate up in the gulf last year, and we were both on sat phones with intermitant coverage from 10:20am to 10:45 am. we just acepeted the drop out and got on with the job.
