Hello Phil,
There is an electronic device that will not allow you to put it in gear, unless your foot is on the brake..... Big engine, massive torque, safety device to keep a kid from motoring down the street by accident. It is probably just a relay or fuse out for that safety feature...

As Steve has indicated if you can’t get it out of park it is probably a fuse or possible a brake light blown.

Ford has a work around if the electronic lock is the problem:
1 turn ignition to lock and remove key
2 put the key back in and turn to off
3 hold the brake and shift into neutral and start vehicle.
I havent actually tried it but this is out of the F250 hand book.

Alternatively if you had selected park on a steep hill and the vehicle rolled slightly there is sometimes enough force on the parking pawl in the gearbox to prevent it disengaging – simple fix is to jack up one wheel slightly to take the load of the tailshaft (make sure the vehicle doesn’t roll away).

Regards

Hi all,
Thanks for the input. Found the problem being the main harness was squashed when tray fitted and slowly shorted out thus blowing a fuse under dash.
Happy tracking.

I had a similar problem in my previous Honda - brake light fuse was blown and hence could not get out of park. I managed to work it out myself, but it was amazing that there was nothing in the Owner's Manual on it.

Hello again Phil,
The Lone Ranger tried Pal and Sops "Ford work around" key off and out, key back in turned to off, foot on brake and take out of gear to nuetral to start... Works fine... Something for everyone to keep in mind... Shame to be stuck for want of it...

Regards, from the Ranger...
