Hello Bushtrackers.
I am a new member here and have never posted before but I have been reading your site for a long time.
Never thought that I had anything to say before now and this message has taken some putting together.
It seems that you have an active committee dedicated to the site and a lot of positive contributors, I have gained a lot of valuable knowledge reading these posts, just wish that I was an owner so that I could read the other messages.
What has prompted me to put this message together is the recent postings by Jay.
I have never met him but from messages I gather that he is an American lawyer moved to this country.
That may well be an explanation for the style of posting that Jay seems to specialise in.
I do not believe that it is a valid excuse for his behaviour or the style of language he has chosen to use in his posts.
Correct me if I am wrong and remember that I am unable to read the owners messages, but has Jay ever made a positive post, one that is designed to give assistance to others, a post that will one day assist another member who may gain from it.
The only posts from Jay that I have seen are inflammatory, seemingly designed to inflame others.
The posts above are a very good example of my point.
Turist has made a quip that has given some offence to Steve. (Got to say, don’t see anything wrong with it, old joke and part of the Chev/Ford debate they been having)
The heat was going out of the situation when in comes Jay and throws a bucket of fuel on the simmering fire.
Why?
A few more members put some water on the fire and cool it off again but guess what?
Jay tosses on more fuel.
Why?
“Taking the piss”, Jay’s words, not mine, a crude description of a type of friendly banter very common between blokes over a beer. (Not guys having a cocktail.)
It is a part of our culture here Jay, wether you like it or not.
What seems to be part of your culture is what can only be called “ bleep stirring”
You seem to be an expert in the art, most times your timing is immaculate, you intercede when not required simply to inflame an issue.
You have made a number of derogatory comments about the lifestyle that we have here.
If you find it so offensive what are you doing here?
And yes, “Dinki Di” and other euphemisms are still used here but you would not appreciate the true meanings. And you probably never will.
And remember, Road Runner is a yank cartoon show and Australia's Greatest Home Video a copy of a second rate yank show, just some more of the crap you lot are pushing on us.
In closing I ask, has the committee power to reprimand a member for posting messages designed to inflame what are otherwise small arguments between members.
Just hate escapees from a second rate lifestyle knocking what we have here.
Nurtzy

Gee, another anti-American anti-lawyer person - so what else is new!
The ONLY thing worth commenting upon in your post:
"“Taking the piss”, Jay’s words, not mine, a crude description of a type of friendly banter very common between blokes over a beer. (Not guys having a cocktail.)
It is a part of our culture here Jay, wether you like it or not. "
I am well aware that "taking the piss" is part of your culture - I am told that quite often when I question people cutting down other people.
Why is it necessary? What does it accomplish to cut someone down, to tease or ridicule, other than to make the speaker feel good about himself?
If you take the time to read the posts objectively, the first post was a shot at cars - however, once it was seen that Steve was upset the posts left the automotive arena and became personal. That is when I decided to speak up.
Who cares about Fords and Chevys? People are all that matter, and if they matter enough then at some point enough is enough!
Wikipedia describes it as follows: Taking the mickey and taking the piss are British slang expressions meaning to tease or ridicule.
I ask again and I wonder if anyone has an appropriate answer: when is enough enough?
Personally, I felt and still believe that the "shots" at Steve went too far. That's my opinion as a human being having nothing to do with being an American Lawyer living in Australia.
Jay
