Free fuel recording spreadsheets.
Using my recording system and inputting litres used, distance travelled and cost of fill,
you will record these values for the trip, PLUS you will automatically calculate
miles travelled
gallons used
miles per gallon
Km/L
L/100km
(A) for each fill up of fuel
(B) accumulated totals and averages of the above
PLUS because our odometers are never completely accurate you can correct the calculations when you have an opportunity to check your odometer against a known correct distance.

How do I get it???
type www.animal-acupuncture.com/fuelcalcs.zip
into your browser and save the file to your hard drive.
You must have winzip or winrar on your computer to extract the 3 files it contains.
One is this file readme.txt.
Instructions for fuel calculations spreadsheets.
(1) You must have Microsoft EXCEL installed on your computer
(2) Two excel files are provided in this zipfile
(a) Myfuel.xls which is a demo with my actual figures for a period
(b) Bogfuel.xls which is an empty excel spreadsheet for you to make a clean start.
(3) Before a new start open bogfuel.xls and then save it with a name to suit yourself
eg: PerthTrip.xls or January07.xls or whatever suits your purpose. This then leaves the base spreadsheet empty for renaming as many times as you might want in the future.
You enter the date in the format dd/mm/20xx....ie 01/04/2007.
tab to the next field and enter the place where you are buying the fuel...eg NorsemanBP.
tab to the next field and enter the number of litres purchased.
tab to the next field and enter the cost in dollars and cents.
tab to the next field and enter the reading on your trip-meter in km eg 354.6
That is all you need to enter.
Make sure you reset your trip meter after writing down the amounts and before you leave the gas station. I keep a normal logbook for this purpose and fill in the spreadsheet later when convenient.
Note you must either completely fill that tank at each visit to the bowser or you will need to keep a running tally until such time as you do a complete fill. I have long range tanks and often only put in 150L at a time to take advantage of Woollies fuel dockets. However when I leave town I fill up completely and close off the running tally.
Thus you can now understand how I managed to get 404L of fuel in "one" fill. Actually it was the sum of several part fills and one topup, covering 1966km.
When you come across a measured distance on the road, say 5km (it can be any figure), record what your odometer says for the distance.
For example if your measured 5km is shown as 4.9km on your odometer, this shows as an error of -0.2% in distance travelled and changes my average mpg from 13.8 to 14.07.
Conversely if the correct 5km reads as 5.1km, this is an error of +0.2% in distance travelled and will change my average mpg from 13.8 to 13.52.
Of course all the other variables change too. This error can be inherent in your vehicle OR it can be caused by oversize/undersize rubber, or tyre wear.
NOTE that the first 25 lines of entry are fixed and that lines 26 to 2450+ scroll leaving the top section visible at all times. This is just for ease of use.
Remember to SAVE your input every time.
I hope that this will be as useful to you as it has been to me.
