Gooday,
Had 2001 Grand V8 pulled 20ft Boroma approx 2700kg all up no worries, they are rated to pull 3500kg did 75,000KM with it. Had 2003 5cyl CRD diesel, even better, did approx 73,000Km, now have 3-00L CRD, V6 Commander even better. pulling 3000KG all up
Cheers Boroma 604..

Kevin,
I cannot help you with the Jeep per se - however it will probably pull it OK but I would expect it to be pretty thirsty if it runs on petrol. They do not have the towing grunt of the diesels - eg my petrol cruiser has only 365 Nm torque compared to the diesel version at 420 nM You notice it one the long up-hill runs.

I run a 4.5L petrol Lancruiser and it does the job but you need to have a fat wallet to keep it fed - I also run on auto gas which makes it a little cheaper than running a diesel but then you have range problem once you get away from gas supplies.
I will be changing over to get better range and grunt soon.

Petrol is a much more volatile fuel to use out in the 'sticks' compared to diesel which is freely available just about anywhere.

The 'standard' vehicles used to tow BTs are the big Toyota and Nissan diesels closely followed by the Ford F250. These big louts have a great mass and footprint which makes for a very safe towing vehicle. With a huge slow revving 7.3L diesel they have heaps of grunt and tow the BT's effortlessly. Fuel wise they do about the same as the Toyota Landcruisers or about 20L/100k.

I have heard they have a poor turning circle and dont fit the ever reducing parking bays at the supermarket.
Regards
John

Just checked the 2001 Jeep Grand V8 towing specifications (my son owns one) The towing capacity is 2948kg. The 5 cylinder diesel 3500kg.
Current models the V8 petrol and the V6 diesel are both rated at 3500kg but the ball weight has been reduced from 350kg the old models to 327kg. Just checked that on my Commander which the same towing ratings as the Grand.
I have never been to the Cape but believe it is not for beginners,my wife and I have towed all our lives, being farmers, but don't intend to take our Commander & BT to the Cape.
