Have any other members towed their vans to Cape Leveque. Will be in the Kimberleys early June.

Hi Rick & Leone
The road's suitable for a BT taken sensibly, but don't plan on being able to camp at Cape Leveque itself, (Kooljaman). They have a 'management policy' to not allow caravans, so we tented it for a few nights last June. The site next to us was occupied by a Jayco wind up wind out trailer, its length was greater than our BT, but the original reason I was given was that they don't have space.!!!
On questioning, they told me that they don't want caravans, and rattled off a few silly reasons.
Nonetheless, NOT TO BE MISSED!
We have spoken to lots of Boggers who have camped at Middle Lagoon.
Enjoy... might see you at Cable Beach CP from early June

Bob

Rick and Leone,
We did not get to CL as we had dogs with us. You can free camp off the Minari Rd which goes left off about the Cape Leveque about 15k north of Broome. Road goes to Willie Creek and on to Barred Creek followed by Quondong Beach. Its free camping overlooking the water. Sand flies at dawn dusk but otherwise pretty good. Fishing was good when we were there. Careful of the crocs at Barred Creek, but we swam at Quondong. Also Recommend Barn Hill Station south of Broome - very laid back.

Cheers John

There is good camping at Middle Lagoon, about 1/2 way to Cape Leveque and easy access. Best road in is the one that heads north about half way to Derby.

If you go to the BP Servo in Broome and speak to the Aboriginal mechanic there, his mother in law is the boss lady at One Arm point, and he may be able to arrange for you to enter and stay there. He said to us that he could get entry permits through him no problems.

I have stayed at Quondong and the next area up that track Prices Point. There are some very nice sites around there. Some right on the edge with water views unsurpassed. Sometimes one needs to do a little grass cutting to access. Sunsets are great. Had a low flying jet scare me once. Must have been from that RAAF base near Derby. cheers, Neil.

We did Cape Leveque last August. While you cannot stay there keep going towards One Arm Point you will see to your left "Gumbanan". Bt's are welcome here. We got ours in there easy & a Trackmaster that was travelling with us.

Worth it, hosts are lovely & scenery out of this world.....fishing unbelievable.

Also a new camp ground at Chilli Creek, just south of Lombardina. Only opened last year & very nice. When we looked it was empty, facilities are top class.

Enjoy !!!
