I scrubbed and washed and brushed and scrubbed and washed and brushed the mesh screens on the windows of our van. And still they are dirty looking. You can still see the red dust. Any ideas?

Dianne did you do this with the screens in situ?
We take them out and wash them in warm soapy water in one of those big white buckets.
A good rinse and they are like new again.
Regards
Bob

Dianne, if the red dust is iron ore dust, then I'm afraid you just have to get used to the colour of the screens being red all the time! The stuff is a dye! Our screens are a nice rust shade and I have long since given up trying to get them clean. After a week, they look the same as they did pre-cleaning.

Remember the trick of warming the mesh screens before re-installing them. I find laying out in the sun drys and prepares them for sticking back in. cheers

I wish I had received this advice a few months back when I was installing the new midge screens.
At least I will know next time I take them off.
Thanks, Brian

We have a little roller bristle brush designed for screen cleaning - no bad but not brilliant. Best is to remove them.
If you get the 'Pilbara red' dust or water splashes and they are hard to remove try adding a cup of kero to the wash water and the stains just wash off.
Kero is a very good cleaning agent. Pity about the pong - but it only lasts a little while and the ants don't like it either.
