I should remember this.. but ....there was a posting about floor covering over the vinyl available from Clark Rubber .... called into the store at Albury today and they are no more! Apparently they went kaput 18months ago (gee time goes fast... I was sure I was there within the year}.... time moves fast when your having fun!!!

Bob or Ange can you tell me the brand again please.... will have to do some Googling to check out where I can get it now.

Thanks a bunch,

Helen

Walkertech or Walkertek, not sure about the spelling.
At a good carpet store near you.

Helen, there are two types - Walkertex and Flowtex.

One of them is the industrial strength they use in nursing homes and children's creche's. Ours is that kind - Flowtex.

If you go to somewhere like a Carpet Call they should have an offcut you can get reasonably cheaply. That's how we got ours. About $70 I think. Then just cut it to size.

Very warm underfoot in cold weather, a lot quieter in the van and protects the vinyl beautifully. Can be taken outside and hosed down. Izzy will love the softness under her paws.

Do you have to take your shoes off to walk inside? My hubby wears boots all the time and I am forever cleaning(the mud) the the floor. He's a busy boy and doesn't like to take them off. I cringe at the thought of carpet for that reason.

Would be interested to know if it "grabs" onto your shoes or runners like some other types of rubberised type of mats do.

No, doesn't grab. If you think about it they wouldn't use something like that in old people's or young children's environments because of the risk of falling over.

Hi there,

From our experience, nothing will be safe from muddy boots coming into the van. Ivan takes his off outside the van and leaves them on a step or just under the van. He is probably more careful about taking his shoes off than I am but I do have a little possie I leave mine in when I hop into the van and slip into "van" slipons.

We have an extra square of the carpet just inside the door which catches most of the dirt, sand etc. We have a small vaccuum cleaner which runs off the inverter but Ivan is happy to get down and get dirty by sweeping the floor with a little brush which gets rid of most of the stuff that makes it past the door mat.

We also have a small mat at the bottom of the steps before you step into the van to get as much dust, sand etc off as possible.

So, yes you still need to clean the carpet but with a van the size most of us have it is not like we'r really doing heaps of housework is it?

Train your hubby to slip his shoes off and getting carpet may be just the way to do it.

All we did was purchase marine carpet, cut it to size and the offcuts are on the floor in the hull, under bed etc.
Excellent and protects the vinyl/lino.
have also used a couple of bits pop rivited onto each step. Apart from cleaning your feet on entering, the carpets protects Matilda (our security system) toe nails from passing through the holes in the steps and removing her nails as she exits the van in a hurry. (Typical of cattle dogs when come one is around the van!!!!).
She has only lost one toe nail, then we covered the steps.

The carpet is easy to remove dust off and/or wash.

Did a bit of chasing... on the internet sitting by da river..... and found a carpet firm in Albury that had two patterns of Flotech floor covering to choose from.

It was stated at $59- lineal meter (on special) as they were remnants after a commercial job.

For our 18fter we needed 3.4m for it to be cut out all in one piece and got it for $200-

So picked it up on our way home from da river.

You were right..... no flathead..... no murray cod... no schnapper (was that what you said??) but we did arrive at the right time for one very lucky sugar glider possum He was caught by his tail in a barb wire fence and were able to release him.... bet he would be sore and sorry for a while.

Cheers,
Helen
