This month's edition of the Open Road magazine advises that the towing limits for Premium Care Members has been upgraded to 3.5 tonne and there is no longer a length limit.

However, this contradicts with the Terms and Conditions PDF Booklet on the NRMA website and which was revised on 1 April 2007.

I have communicated with NRMA for clarification and will update post when I get additional feedback.

We had the unfortunate experience of needing this service two weeks ago (2 May). We were told the limit on the car were 3.5 tonne at that time so that was no problem. But, the limit on the caravan was 2 tonne - we had to fork out an extra $88 for our tow home. I argued that we were under the combined limit (or near enough) but NRMA Premium Care would not have a bar of it.

So according to my interpretation of the paragraph in the Open Road magazine and recent experience - vehicle 3.5 tonne, caravan any length as long as it is under 2 tonnes.

It would be nice to find out I am wrong on the caravan weight!

NRMA phoned me and confirmed that the announcement in the Open Road is correct - that is, the towing limits for attached caravan/trailer for Premium Care Members has been upgraded to 3.5 tonne and there is no longer a length limit.

As a result of my inquiry, they have advised that their Terms and Conditions Booklet needs to be updated to reflect this.

I will post a link to said booklet when the reprint is available.

(I was unaware of Mick's post at time of talking to NRMA, so I can't shed any light of the effective date of the new arrangements. However, under the old conditions, caravan/trailer tow was available upto 2.0 Tonnes laden weight (according to the April Terms and Conditions Booklet), and a height limit of 2.6 metres.)
