picked up our new van only 2 weeks ago and would have preferred to have LED'S everywhere - Steve is working on it but no success yet finding a LED strip that is reliable and pumps out enough light to replace a flouro. We have 4 LED downlights inside which draw next to nothing when on - good enough for background lighting but not good enough to replace the flouro. Can't get over how little they draw though - free light!

Kenso - we were unable to find anything suitable, so purchased little plastic boxes from DSE and mounted the round LEDs (ones that are interchangeable with the halogens), a switch, and a tail which was purchased from a lighting store (some, the rest from a 12 volt shop).

Kenso as I have all LED running, brake and indicator light I was going to go full LED inside as well and after many discussions with Steve about his tests it all seemed as if it was not there yet.

I did check out the new Hella multi voltage LED lights, can't remember what model now but you will find them in the Hella catalog but they were very nice looking semi curved round lights that came in gold or white surrounds and had a diming button on them that remembered what setting you last had it on and when turned on again it remained on that setting until you adjusted up or down.

The other feature was it had another button for red light which I thought would give the inside of the van a different affect, you know that romantic stuff the women talk about.

But the cruncher was when I had a mate who has a auto electrical business get me a price on them it was something like $412 each, and thats his price, I think they were up in the $600 mark so multiply that by at least 6 it comes to quite a bit.

I will wait until they come down in price when they have been around for a while and maybe change over later.

Having said that the fluro lights in our BT certainly give a nice bright light.

Cheers

Steve had LED lights of various types in his van that was at Copeton last year, and while the reading lights are very good in LED, the other LED lights that he had did not give a good spreading overall light in the van.

I think the Fluros are still the best for overall lighting in the roof of the vans with LED reading lights.

Having found the spot type bulbs Bustracker provided satisfactory for reading once you get used to the bluish tinge of the cool white lights and focusing only a part of the page, we have installed some of the LEDs of the warm white bulbs, using spreaders rather than spots, in the living area. There is a lot of choice out there in bulbs (interchangeable with halogens for easy fitting), but cannot buy suitable fittings for these, short of buying halogen lamps and changing the bulbs, hence our trial version home made lamps in DSE boxes.
