Hi All,
We've been in Armidale for 24 hours now and would like to be touring in the BT but have these motels to run for the next couple of months...anyhow those great River camps we stayed at on our way up here are now on the Camps page as promised.

Hope some of you Boggers get to enjoy them as we did.
Cheers

Thanks Rick and Julie,

We still reckon that our MURRAY SOURCE TO SEA was one of our best trips in the 5 years that we have had our Bushtracker. Between Cabramurra and the Coorong we travelled over 55 nights, only spending 8 nights in caravan parks. Apart from 7 nights on a houseboat upstream from Renmark, the rest of our camps were free, on the banks of the Murray, mostly on the Victorian side as the authorities encourage collection and usage of firewood (Unlike the NSW National Parks).

The campsites are hard to list as there are so many beaut spots.....just find a track that leads to the river....but beware of wet weather as that black soil ain't fun after 20mm of rain. Also, don't camp directly under a river red gum....branches fall without warning....even on calm days.

When you've stopped hanging around pubs......get out there!

Cheers...............Rob and Liz

Hey Rob & Liz,
"Stopped Hanging Around Pubs".....not that we think that's a lost pastime, but it's MOTELS that we manage not HOTELS......GASP....our good name is being dragged through the BOG...

Your trip along the MURRAY sounds like a real adventure and we've thought of spending more time in that region ourselves....also the Murrumbidgee has it's nice spots too and it seems that there are over 20 camps listed in Camps 3 along the Murrumbidgee from Hay to Narranderra. When we drove through there we noticed regular side tracks with sign posts with "River" on them. Blind Freddie can see that they needed some investigating.

Yes those 2 points of safety are in my Camps descriptions as the one at Bottle Bend has 2 kilometres of black soil track in to the river banks and of course the whole area is black soil...if strolling through rain affected black soil, your thongs will quickly become the size of snow shoes and the best 4x4 will slide to a giddy stop with tyres twice as wide as they should be and vehicles with restricted clearance wheel arches can grind to an embarrassing halt...not to mention the cleaning job that lies ahead.

On the gum branches, we noticed some fallen ones at the Bunyip Hole camp (Beautiful Spot) and they had only come down recently so we were judcious in our selection of camp spot. A popular theory is that the gums drop their branches more often in still times not windy times and the reason offered is that they will shed vegetation in dry times in order to relieve the stress of drought, with less leaves to expirate water from.

Yes, we will be on the road again soon....soon as we finish this round of motels...we work now until the end of August and then we have the month of September off...then a Bushtrackering we will go...

Hope to see you on the road/track somewhere...we hate a campfire and a good red or 3.

Cheers
Rick & Julie
