Motherhen,
Send me your email address and I will forward a photo of how I set up the guages in the truck. I think they are very important as it gives you readings and you know when to stop and let the tranny cool down if working hard.
As you know the F250 ideal operating tranny temp is 80c with max temps up around 104c and the tranny will go intro limp mode at 132c.
If you don't have gauges and the vehicle is working hard you will not know this until it happens.
On our return trip from the factory in April going up the steep hill into Toowoomba with a fully loaded 21' BT and F250 my tranny temp rose quite high even with an extra tranny cooler installed and it was good to keep an eye on the temp as to know when to pull over if needed.
It was interesting to see the difference in the EGT temps as well an how they altered when the engine worked, boost gauge also. You get to know at a glance when the temps are in the normal range just like oil pressure gauges on the dash.
The guages I installed are Revolution custom gauges from USA, very nice gauges, but bloody expensive so I found out, and you can set alarms to come on and red lights glow when they reach the set alarm temps which I have set below the limp mode temp and on my climb up the hill into Toowoomba they started to come on, good to know.
My installer even had the FORD oval embossed onto the face of the gauge and matched the lighting to as close as possible to the original dash lights and mounted them nicely under the dash in the perfect spot. They can be ordered in any colour configuation with lighting etc.
The only trouble is that as they come from America they are in F and all the Ford books for Oz give C. To solve this my installer has ordered new faces for the gauges from America in C and they are getting fitted on Wednesday so all the conversion stuff won't matter.
If you request the photos you will notice that the mounting bracket that he made up is in polished stainless but on Wednesday he will be covering this in black vinyl to match the rest of the dash as I did not like the stainless, didn't blend in.
Cheers
Stewart
