Hi all,

I am still deciding which way to go with wheels and tyres for F250 and BT .

I have been looking at 16x8 wheels steel or alloy to go to 285 tyres.as it seems quite a few members have done.

In looking at tyres fitted by members mentioned in Forum the load ratings seem to be 122 and I have been told the minimum rating for F250 is 123 as per original tyres.

I have also been told that poor tyre wear is a result of under rated tyres and that insurance could be a problem in the event of an accident with tyres on the vehicle which do not comply.

Feed back on this issue would be appreciated.

Regards,

Rob

Rob,
I have fitted 122 rated tyres to my F250, you need to read the tyres specification sticker on the drivers side front door and work it out from there, but my truck 122 are legal, checked that out with main roads, Ford were useless. if you need any help, contact me and i will tell you what i have.

123 is the minimum for F250.
Fit anything less and you're asking for trouble:
A: It may simply not be up to the job.
B: If you have an accident the onus of proof will be on you that the tyres did not contribute.
C; Fitting anything less makes your vehicle unroadworthy.
D: No reputable tyre dealer will (should) fit the lesser rated tyres anyway.

123 is available in 265/75/16 commonly also some makes have 285/75/16
BFG do a AT in 295/75/16

Once again though there is a legal minefield when it comes to tyres with a diameter larger than standard fitment. B above certainly applies as does C even though your load rating may be OK.

Hope this helps.

Chris,
I have double checked my information regarding tyres on the f250 and i cannot quoat your truck but mine has a tyre chart that states the Load Carrying Capacity was 2817 kg on the rear axel and 2068 kg on the front (axel combination)
a 122 tyre tyre rating has a 1500kg (x2 = 3000kg) rating so i then double checked there was no derating for a combination, and no detrating applies (only to duelies) so unless your vechicle is different to mine, not sure about your comment in C.
I have double checked with the Qld department of Transport and they said it is legal.
