What is the recommended oil for our F250? Our local mechanic has suggested we buy in bulk and save cost, but we want to make sure we get the best product if we do this.

Thanks

Depends on whether you are going to use synthetic or mineral. If you are like a lot of owners that change the oil every 5000 k's then synthetic can become expensive and probably not warranted.

I think the Castrol RX Super Diesel oil is the one recommended by the the american forums and I think it says on the drums recommended for american diesel engines.

This is what I will be using in my F250 but any of the well known brands of oils will be just as good as long as it is good quality, but this goes without saying.

Following is info I have gathered
OIL INFORMATION

I have had a few requests on this and: Per my Tip # 29 on “Saving Your Automatic Transmission”, the key is Synthetic oils have a higher boiling point than the mineral oils. I was talking then about Transmax Z, which besides taking harder work and higher temperatures it has what they call more “Surface Tension” meaning it sticks to the material faces under load better. Well it is now on their Website at www.castrol.com.au and click on the “Lube Guide” and go to make and model and such… Castrol are now recommending the Transmax Z for “Heavy Towing” Which takes you to: Site Link

It looks like this: (NOTE 134 AT BOTTOM RECOMMENDING TRANSMAX Z) Commercial Vehicle, Light /Medium & 4x4 F-250 4x4, V-8 Turbo Diesel (2001-2006) FORD F250 4x4, 7.3 Litre V8 Turbo Diesel (2001-2006)

Red Line Oil Info
Recommendation as follows
Engine Oil - Red Line 15W40 Diesel Oil

If Automatic - Use Red Line High Temp ATF
Front and Rear Diffs - Use Red Line 80W140 Gear Oil
Cooling System - Use distilled water and WaterWetter (pink).

New SHELL oil ROTELLA T for the new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel but can be used in engines older than 2007 claims will give better performance, less wear, improve oxidation, reduced soot and deposits.

ROTELLA is a new Shell product in america and I don't think it is in Oz yet.

Cheers

Stewart answered you perfectly. I only use Castrol RX Super engine oil. Buy in 20 L drums for less that $100.00 Have had to buy from Supercheap lately. Cost was $89.00
Do not go near Repco. They are thieves.
