Is anyone able to verify that free-to-air is available (without smartcard) from the Optus D1 satellite? (My previous email requestig how to tune the Oyster system in to this probably confuses things - can anyone tune in with any type of sat system?)

Technical details on Optus D1, including frequency data is available at Site Link

The LyngSat website provides addtional data on the available services and would seem to confirm that thse channels are not encoded? See www.lyngsat.com/optusd1.html

Now there must be satellite hobbyist there who will enjoy researching this question for the rest of us dummies?

The D1 is easy to locate. Firstly locate the C1 then move the dish 4 degrees to the east at the same elevation.
All the Aussie channels are free-to-air on this satellite for the time being.
