Has anyone who owns an Effie ever bought a diagnostic computer to help sort out what the fault codes are? We are faced with the prospect of a 11,000k trip to Perth to find a fault code reading on our truck, and I have just read a very old posting by Steve Gibbs where he says he has one. Just wondering if any one else has one, if so, which one did they buy and how do you go about finding it in the Powerstroke web site (MAZE!) I have tried and tried to find even a reference to the CPS which we have bought through that website before, and now I can't get to anything like that part! getting very very frustrated with the whole exercise and would like some help please!

I think it was one of these, Site Link
When used as a scan tool, the Edge Evolution allows the user to check and clear diagnostic trouble codes with simple, clear text descriptions of the error.
Your Evolution monitor allows you to monitor the performance of your engine’s vital engine components and output values. The following parameters can be displayed on the main Evolution screen (maximum 4 at one time):
• RPM
• MPH
• Engine Coolant Temp
• Cylinder Head Temp
• Air Intake Temp
• Engine Load %
• Mass Air Flow
• Spark Advance
• Battery Voltage
• Instantaneous Miles Per Gallon
• Fuel Economy
• Diagnostic Trouble Codes
That Attitude can sound an alert when certain engine parameter levels are met. The following alerts are available:
• Spark
• Engine Oil Temp
• Engine Coolant Temp
• MPH
• RPM
• Cylinder Head Temperature

If my memory serves me correctly the device that Steve Gibbs had was a Superchips plug in computer.
This device (and I also have one) has 3 levels of tune that can be down loaded as well as being able to read fault codes.
I bought mine of E-Bay in the US. If interested go to E-Bay and type in 1705 Superchips Max Micro Tuner and you should get something.
I have never (touch wood) had to diagnose anything yet so can't tell you how to use it or how effective it is.
Regards,
Bill

Thanks once again for the helpful replies. We think we have the problem sussed......it appears to be the litle micro switch under the accelerator pedal which is sticking and giving a fault light. We have to buy a complete accelerator pedal in order to have a new switch, but if this is the solution to the problem, then it's better than having to tote the whole vehicle to Perth for a diagnosis!
