Just received this info from a retired police officer freind of mine.

Good information to know for anyone travelling NSW on these routes over Xmas.

M5 and the M7 are now equipped with Point to Point speed devices.
Once you enter the M7 for instance you pass the etag and it beeps.
At the same time a camera takes a photo of your car and records
the exact time.
For those who have exited the M7 they would be aware that upon exit
the etag system beeps again as you leave.
At the same time another camera at that point takes a photo of the
car and the time.
Then the computer calculates the time it has taken you to
travel between the two points and calculates your speed.
If you have completed the clocked journey too fast you are given a
speeding ticket.

At the present time the speed limit is 100K.P.H. and you have a
tolerance of 102 and no more.
One fraction over that speed and you are issued with a fine
automatically.
Remember, this is going to be a very costly experience for some
drivers.

It is also going to mean vehicles will be travelling at 95 in order
to ensure that no ticket is issued.
What a shock some drivers are going to have when they have used this
roadway for a week and get a weeks tickets BOTH WAYS.
Of course your license will also be recalled for three months and
you know the rest.
Take the advice and if you ignore it remember this email when
you pay all those fines.

Also, remember that now with the new legislation, fighting a speed
camera fine is almost impossible.
You must prove the device is faulty and if you are not a technician
working on them, you have no chance of beating the fine.
The Pacific Highway has a set and these are recognized as large
steel frames over the lanes with a speed camera and some distance up the road
is another large metal frame with a speed camera.
These new point to point systems are being put onto any expressway
or highway where vehicles are not able to exit between those points.

Also remember that school zone cameras are not speed tolerant.
Anything over, even 41, is a fine. This means people will be doing
38 to avoid any differences in their speedo readings.

Hope this advice keeps your name out of the 'book'

Neil,

Haven't heard of this system being used in Queensland yet, but I know that it is used on a number of roads in Victoria, and many of their cameras are not readily seen as they are on the far side of a bridge or similar.

In Victoria they have speed cameras mounted with Red Light Cameras so that those drivers who speed up on the amber to get through the lights either get a speed fine or if they don't make it in time both speed & red light fines.

I suppose it will not belong before the Truck cameras on gantries along the major highways stay getting used for tracking all vehicles.

Oh! you mean they are not already!
Sally will be unhappy - she diligently puts on her best smile and waves so sweetly to those gantry cameras each time we go under them!

Seriously - thanks for the info! Not that we are speedy drivers as such, but handy to know!

Yes! What a shock with a weeks worth of fines each way each day! No more Christmas cheer - eh!

Cheers - Ian & Sally

Hi
We are getting confliction opions on the accuracy of the speed on the GPS compared to the car speedo? The car speedo is up to 5klm/hr ahead of the GPS,We tend to think the GPS would be more acurate and have not had our photo taken yet we hope.

Interesting stuff all this. We are learning to use our Uniden in car whatchit, thingo we got with our Next G phone plan from Harvey Norman. Plus we just gave our TOJO some new shoes which gave an immediate 20mm diameter increase from worn tyre tread depth to new tyre tread depth.
So prior to new tyres we regularly read 3kph less than the GPS unit speed. Now with the new tyres we are right on the same speed.
We have also used the RAA Odometer / speedo check 5 kilometre sections against a stop watch and found the speedo was quite accurate there too! Both for the distance and the speed!
All the things we do to occupy the time between point A and B!
Cheers - Ian & Sally
