Hi people,
Do any of you computer savvy types know why my computer has stopped allowing an auto log-on? Other forums are the same so I guess its the computer - which is also getting slow and cranky (just like the owner!)

Sounds like the cookies have been deleted John.

A system defrag can tidy up the hard drive, it may help the slow & cranky pc

Start

All Programs

Accessories

System Tools

Defrag

John,

Most likely thing is something has changed on your computer. Different browser? You cleaned out the cookies. You reset security so the browser can't accept cookies. You are using Norton Security.

Any of those?

Hi John,
All of the above is good advice and if you have recently deleted your "Browsing History" then usually visited web sites will be slower to load than normal as the files have to downloaded direct from the web instead of from the memory cache on your hard drive.

Another possibility.....is your anti virus software up to date and doing regular scans??? Browsing type viruses can be unintentionally downloaded to your computer just by visiting a web site of dubious nature.
These programs such as Trojans, Back Doors, Auto Diallers, Auto Mailers and the like all use your computers processor and ram to do their nasty work....also uses your internet connections band width too resulting in slower than normal browsing and down load speeds.

Hope this helps and have a good Chrissy.
Cheers
Rick

Howdy John,
Like me and a son and some work mates - all having XP pro go slow of late?
Seems like the only cure (from work IT gurus) is to save all your data on a separate drive, reformat the main drive and re-install every thing. Then have to down load all those updates as well after re-installing XP Pro and Service pack 2. (apparently in the new year Service Pack 3 is to be presented as it is in Beta mode at present).
Then of course put all that saved data back!
Hmm!
Pwhat a task!
Most are taking a weekend to do just that! I enjoy life too much to spend all that time on such stuff!
Apparently the registry has got a tad over loaded and needs a good dose of salts!
Guess when we get back to usual life in the new year thats what I'll have to do too!
Hope some one has a more cheery answer than what I have put here!
Cheers - Ian & Sally

Thanks folks - its getting better but may have to resort to the off-load, re-format, re-load route. It will give Jean something to play with when we get out of Perth. (hee hee!)

I am also going to see if I can add some more RAM.

Cheers John and Jean
