A number of years ago there were numerous discussions re jockey wheel setups. A few of us replaced the BT installed unit (AL-KO?) with the Maco Mule. At the same time some of us had the pneumatic tyre filled with a silicone product. With ours after a number of years use, we aim for circa 290kg ball weight, the filler started to protrude out of a split in the tyre. This week we had the original replaced with a solid (3.00 x 10 Magnum Resilient) tyre. Seems about the same weight as the silicone filled unit & will see us out. Cost $80.

Andy
Where did you go to have that done?
Was the replacement on the Al-Ko or your Maco Mule?
Should anyone be interested, I have a dual-wheel Maco Mule unit brand new never used still in its bag, for sale. Just decided to put a Vehicle Components stand on the A-frame instead. In two and a half years continual travel, I have only used the jockey wheel a few times- the jack/stand is that good!
Cheers

The replacement was on the Maco Mule, we gave our Al-Ko to a friend with a lighter van. I can not remember if the Al-Ko has the split rim which is required for the solid tyre. The change was made by our local tyre guy in Tannum Sands (Qld).

Hi Andy,
We also had ours filled with silicone a few years ago, but have noticed that it is starting to break down. It gives the appearance as though it is going flat, I have been thinking about a replacement lately and will follow up on your information.
Regards,
Paul.

I was talking to the guy at Barnes Caravans in Sydney , asking him about getting a solid wheel for the standard BT jockey wheel ( Alko ?) . He said it was not possible , but that he had filled his with water . I am not sure what advantage this has gave him .
Is the only way to get a solid wheel , to change over to this Maco Mule system ?
The chap I bought the van from said he had had problems with the tyre going flat , and he provided me with a spare tube .
Willie .
