Advice/wise counsel/opinions appreciated for issue below:
At this point, our design provides for one Large and one Extra large cargo hatch. Looking back over many previous posts, most people like bigger hatches...the bigger the better. Will having one Large and one Extra large work? Should I go with two extra large?
If we have one of each, which side for the Extra large? I was going to go with the "off" (road" side as I thought that would be more likely to be the side I'd be taking the genny out, if it is being used?
Rick

This is a really good question, and it will be interesting to see the advice you get. Just remember the fable of The Man, The Boy and The Donkey.
Anyway, I have two large hatches (so didn't have to make this decision).
So, look at it this way - I have a Honda EU20I which will fit adequately through the large hatch, if tilted slightly. A larger model generator would probably not fit.
It makes practical sense to stow the things you use most when in camp on the kerb side - easy to get to, and better light if you need to access things at night.
Conclusion:
Extra large hatch on off side (for easy access to generator)
Large hatch to kerb side
Caveat
As I don't have an extra large hatch, I am "guessing" here. But I think that an extra large hatch interferes with having a bedside drawer? Someone else could clarify that, but it may be a consideration if you have an island bed.

We have extra large hatches on both sides. 40l engel, on fridge slide, on the awning side [beer fridge]. Other side for gennie etc. The extra large hatches make for easy unloading and pack up. You can actually crawl in to the cargo area quite easily. Would recomend extra large.

Hi John,
I hate the term extra large hatch, lock BT up by putting the size of the door openings you want on your contract and you won't be disapointed.
I have two hatches with an inside openings of 680mm x 660mm and I am very happy with the access this provides.
It is after all it's your shed and a man must have acess to his shed (lol)
Go Big

We have two extra large BT size and use the awning side like Smick, 40lt engel on a slide out
If i had my time again i would add a 3rd door to suit our Yacht bed style layout and use that for the engel slide, as the engel would fit neatly inside the corner under bed return area.

Wouldn't be without 2 extra large. It gives you all the options (as long as money is not a problem)

Wouldn't swap the bedside bench and drawers for bigger doors.

You dont loose the bedside bench and drawer. All you have to do is open the bedside drawer to have FULL acess to the cargo hatch.

Hi Rick, we had one of each and in retrospect would have probably gone two extra large. I thought having the extra large would mean Ivan would lose his drawer but BT changed the runner so it was along the top of the drawer and didn't interfere then with the extra large hatch.
