G'day,

I found what is below on another site and thought that it was worthwhile posting here. For anyone travelling to this area it is good to have a bit of information about the place and how it operates, being forewarned is being forearmed.

Regards

Loucas

"Visitors to Barcaldine should be made aware of the efforts, mainly by the Proprietors of the Barcaldine Tourist Park, and later supported by the Homestead Caravan Park to have both the Lloyd Jones Weir facility, and the Barcaldine Showground Camping Facility closed down. While these Facilities have survived the initial attack, their future is by no means assured. Currently, the two Commercial Parks in Barcaldine have forced Council to cease advertising the Showground, and increase fees from $14 per night to $20 per night, and from $75 per week to $120 per week. These changes have come about as a direct result of the complaints and actions of the Barcaldine Tourist Park. I would urge any visitors to Barcaldine to stay at the Showground Park, cost notwithstanding. To stay at either of the two Commercial Parks is to support closure of both important facilities, and reward blatant greed."
