Landcruiser 100 series V8 owners, which gear do you use when pulling your van on the open highway? do you stay in 4th or use overdrive with cruise control on? The reason I ask is that my Daughter has a Prado V6 and it uses less fuel when pulling the Hourse Float in 4th gear than it dose when in 5th or overdrive, (and its not to do with the gears changing up and down all the time.)

We find that using Cruise Control uses far more fuel as it always changes back too quickly....we leave it in 4th/overdirve so it can change into overdrive when it wants to down hills or on easy flats and then it changes out of overdrive when the tourque load senses it.

We're in Boulia at the moment after leaving Armidale nearly 3 weeks ago and headed West out through Bourke-Wanaaring...bad road...corrugated and rocky and sandy...then on to Cameron Corner, Innamincka, Coongie Lake, Birdsville via Cordillo Downs Road and then on to Bedourie and now here at Boulia.

Our BT has lots of fruit and weighs in at 3.4T and the cruiser full too....we're getting an average of 25-28L/100k....can't get Premium ULP at remote places so it uses more than when we can get Premium.

Leave here tomorrow for Mt Isa and then Gregory Downs, Adels Grove, Lawn Hill Etc.

Highest price for ULP is $1.91/L at Bedourie.....$1.69 here in Boulia.

Diesel is $1.97 in most places between Innamincka and here.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
