We are planning some extensive travel through SW and inland Qld next year, either commencing along QLd coast (ie Cairns-Tweed) or travelling clockwise and completing via the coast.

Now I know that the nomads can make it almost impossible to get in anywhere during the winter months. I am wondering if any can be a bit more precise as to when the nomads arrive and depart so that we can avoid those months?

Is it safe to assume that the inland areas are not a problem during autumn-winter, that this is really only a problem on the coast?

Dear Phil and Lorraine,

The nomads are everywhere!!!!

Having said that there is the 'pink slipper nomads' in the caravan parks on the coast and 'the others' out here in the bush.

Western Queensland has the most fantastic freebies around. Camps 4 book has most of the answers to the nice freebies. As does this web site for members in the camping areas section.

Bascially the Bruce Hgy is fully booked and few free campsites. And the road is rotten.

Interesting article in last Sundays Mail about folk now filling up the inland caravan parks to bursting point. And for longer and longer periods throughout the year.
