We were considering a trip to WA mid 2009. We are hoping to leave Brisbane to Boulia to Alice Springs via the Plenty the on to WA. However we have concerns regarding the availability of fuel. Has anyone travelled that way or know of current situation re fuel supplies. Would appreciate any advice or tips. Thanks.

Happy New Year Peter & Laraine,

No fuel available at Tobermorey, but I think that Jervois still has fuel (cash only when we were there), and also available at Harts Range and Gemtree.
Others may have more up to date info.

Which route are you planning to WA?

Best time to do the 'top end' is from late April to end of Aug during the 'dry'

Hi folks Came through the Plenty last July (08)
The Road has, and was being upgraded on both sides of the Border, the only rough patch was an area of about 20ks still waiting to be up graded.A much better road than I was lead to believe, but that could change of course after the floods particularly the Georgina river area.
Tobermory changed ownership about 6-7 years ago, talking to the new owner they are only in residence at times so fuel is no longer available, poor guy had been hammered hard with the drought.
Cash only fuel at Jervois so I was told
Fuel at Gem Tree, brought in in drums and so expensive compared with Alice
