Sunburst or Dometic? Sunburst was a popular choice on a previous thread. Has anyone fitted a Dometic? We will need to have the old annex professionally removed and awning fitted.

theawningman.com.au has given me the following prices and advice:

"A 15’ Sunburst Eclipse rollout awning is priced at $1222.00 + freight or installation.
A 15’ Dometic 8300 rollout awning is priced at $1119.00 + freight or installation.
The Dometic awning is a far more superior awning in both wind and rain."

What is your experience?

Hi Motherhen

I spent some time at van shows looking long and hard at all the roll outs on offer and would have to agree that the dometic is far superior.
It will cost a bit more but I would also look at getting the 9000 with the aluminium cover over it for protection from scraping branches and such

Thanks Bob. We have collected the odd twig or two with the present annex!

The rollout on our new van is the Dometic A&E 9000 with the cover. It seems to work fine but our van is new so I do not have much experience. It is very easy to put out or to stow.

Hi Judy

We have a Dometic 8500 which is stronger than the 8300. The 9000 is the same as 8500 but with a cover. We have just replaced the fabric after 5 years because the fabric delaminated along the top where it is exposed to the sun all the time. I wish Bushtracker had installed the 9000 but we were not consulted at all. The people that install the new fabric said I would have got another 2 year out of the fabric if I had the 9000. The Dometic is far superior to the Sunburst.

We used "Caravan Services Pty Ltd" Because they were cheaper than The Awning Man. Might be worth a try. Ph 07 3209 5663. P.S. Dometic give me their name.
