Howdy Boggers,

One of my small flouro lights has failed. The double parallel tubes are joined together and possibly have a built in starter. The model number is Phillips
PL-S11W/84C.

Is there a mail order supplier for these ? Is there a stronger wattage I can safely use in these little roof lamps ? I gather these are 11 watts.

Thanks a lot,

Willie.

PS I just drove from Sydney to Leinster and back without seeing another BT. We are a select few !

Bunnings Willie.
But only buy the Phillips one, for some peculiar reason the other brands will not work.

G'day Willie & Bob,
I'd grab 2 if I were you Willie. We've had our BT since June 2004 and have gone through 5 tubes. BUT we are told that they last forever !! Have always had trouble finding the same tube,so thanks Bob for the imfo. I've always gone to electrical shops, thinking it would be a specialty sort of item. Will definently go to Bunnings and get a supply before we head off to Lake Eyre in 3 weeks.

Lawrie

From what we have heard talking to others that have come down south from Lake Eyre be prepared to pay $250 plus each for a flight over the lake from either maree or william creek to see the lake and water in flows have stopped.

Hi Willie
Halls Creek for me in 2 weeks time and Meekatharra next year with some luck, thats if they let me have more long service, if not it will be Clermont for a couple of weeks and maybe Rubyvale for some stones instead. But on the Subject of lights the 11 watt relates to power consumption and not light output, believe it or not but the light output from the 11watt is much betteron light output than the 13 watt lights, and like all fluros, they have a life and while they continue to glow their light output is down, when you need a torch to see if they are on , it past due to be changed, if they take a long time to fire up, change them as well. I have bought mine from a Electrical wholesaler and being an electrician always where i go, only get bleep off when buying at "trade prices" find cheaper at Bunnings. But must admit never tried the 11 watt at Bunnings before. so worth a try.

G'day Frank,

I tried the Sydney wholesaler Turks today - no luck, so I will go to Bunnings tomorrow.

Thanks for that info . I might replace them all, as they are very dim.

I have some friends doing a detecting tour at Halls Creek this week. I was there last year and some big bits were found. ( but not alas by me ! ).Hope you make it up there.

Willie.

Read Willie's post with interest so went and had look at ours.

They are Phillips PL-S 11W/840/4P

ie Compact flouro 11W (the 840 is a brightness rating) and 4 pins. Need to release the 4 grub screws to remove bulb.

But I can't find any replacement ones.

I went to 3 Bunnings stores - only have 2 pin
I went to 6 lighting and electrical places - none have 4 pin but a couple offered to order them in.
I went to a caravan parts place and they had one but it is a energy saver so dull light.
Went to BCF - they had them but only for 7W

They seem to be scarce and very specialist in application.

I'll keep looking and when I find them I will have to get several for the future.

The 2 pin 11W one at Bunnings was $9.00 the 4pin one at a caravan parts place was $21

If anyone finds a source on north side of Brisbane I would be interested to know.

Cheers

Alan

Alan,

I went down to a huge Bunnings at Lidcombe in Western Sydney today. They had the 11w two pin, but no Phillips only Crompton.

I purchased three and will see how they perform, before I buy more.

Cheers,

Willie.

Springers Low Voltage Specialists have them in stock (confirmed to me on Monday). The Philips PL-S 11W / 840/ 4P is from my Resolux 101 lights... not sure if they suit the older fluoros suppied previously by Bushtracker. I believe that they only fit the Resolux lights now. We supplied the Resolux 101 for our van in March 2005, on Jay Gould's recommendation. BT obviously thought they are OK!
Springers have two branches:
704 Gympie Road Lawnton 07 3889 8898 (northside)
1029 Manly Road Tingalpa 07 3890 8898 (south east)
www.springers.com.au
sales@springers.com.au
i'm going to the tingalpa store tomorrow.
Best wishes

Thanks BobH I will get to Springers very soon.

I have the 4 pin bulb (van is Nov 2008) so maybe the lights have been upgraded.

Willie must have 2 pin. (Heaps of Phillips 2 pin at Bunnings up here)

Thanks again

Springers price $15.90 for Philips PLS 840/4P. Plenty in stock at Springers Tingalpa. I warned them to expect lots of BT owners!

Went to Springers at Lawnton on the northside and they had several in stock.

As I bought a few of them they said they would order more in.

Thanks again

Hi Willie

Some of ours failed, and we too found it hard to get the right wattage, shape and size to fit. The original brand ones were no longer stocked as they were too expensive. I don't recall where we purchased them from, as it was a few years ago and we have changed most over to LED lights. I did an internet search to find them. Only one yet to go, and that needs doing as it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't and sometimes flicks.

Thanks,

Willie.
