This morning we left Cloncurry en route to Kynuna to spend the night. Coming in to McKinlay we noiced a sign advertising the annual race meeting. Being a man with a passion for bush racing we called into the McKinlay Roadhouse where Ross informed us it was the largest bush race meeting in Western Queensland with a croud of 500-600 expected.
Turned around & came out to the race track meeting Angela, the Club Secretary, who said we were welcome to set up camp & use the facilities (showers & toilets). Great spot.
If any BT's are passing through the area we reckon it will be a great day & night. There are seven races (about 80 acceptances), five bookies after races entertainment etc.

If only we were on the road and in the area, we'd join you. With our name being McKinlay it would be a hoot. The town was named after a distant relative - an explorer by the name of John McKinlay ( that's our claim to fame & we're sticking with it)
And a bit of trivia - the pub was the one featured in the film "Crocodile Dundee" it was renamed the "Walkabout Hotel" for the movie.
Would appreciate you letting us know if it is a town worth visiting when the races are on. (Don't think there's much happening any other time of the year)
Have fun & hope you have a win or two.

It was a great meeting. Plenty of van room, good facilities & great people. With the exception of one race all horses ran pretty well to exposed form. Certainly the best remote bush meeting, and we have been to quite a few, in our experience.
We will certainly try to go again next year on our way back from the Roper.
