Hoping to get into Qld and travel southwards after we have toured around northern NT. Any special favourite and not-to-be-missed places? Not keen on too many rough roads after all our adventures and mis adventures over the past two years.

Hi Mum.
If you are looking for some of the "secret" spots maybe you are better to ask on the other forum.

I could probably give you a few.

Can you indicate a rough plan of travel.

Regards

Bob

Hi Bob

Just where to go and what to see. This will form our rough travel plan. We have done a short tour around Cairns to Cooktown and through the Atherton Tablelands, but little else (apart from the rushed trip to Bundaberg when we bought the BT). Interested in the fossil sites (if you can get to see anything) and other must-see places. We will enter from the north and leave the state somewhere south.

We won't tackle the Cape York Peninsular this time, as my driver is none to keen on many more mis-adventures.

MH,

if you go to ExplorOz and search for Thread 69401, you will see a lot of answers to the same question.

Hope you can get something out of it.

Thanks Stephen, I have copied the text to read at leisure. Having done the Cairns, Dainfield to Cooktown, the Atherton Tablelands and Lake Tinaroo, I would recommend all. Don't miss the train from Cairns to Kuranda and return on the sky rail if you can take heights.

We didn't as far as the Undarra lava tunnels which someone has suggested, so will try and get there this time too, although it may be a bit out of our way.

Gregory Downs down along the river is one of the best camps we have had in our travels.

We have been in the channel country between birdsville - longreach for nearly a month, if you get a chance have a look, some of the lagoons still have abundant water in them and the bird life is great such a nice green land at the moment.
