Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what the legal towing capability of the Brazilian built ford F250 is. My understanding is that the earlier models starting 2001 are only legal to tow up to 3,500Kg but they increased that to 4,500 Kg at some time before the last model in 2006. Did this happen and starting which year, is there a compliance plate stating the towing weight on the truck, interestingly Red Book has the 2003 to 2005 models listed as only able to tow up to 3,150Kg, I haven't checked any other models.
Any feedback appreciated
Regards
Eric

Eric,

My understanding is that the earlier ones were 3500 kg as that was the largest tow bar rating available, but when the 4500 tow bars became available in Australia if the 3500kg bar was removed and the 4500kg bar fitted then all of the F250 from Brazil were then able to tow up to 4500kgs.

There is a letter in the file swap section that was supplied to a previous member by Ford giving the towing capacities of the different model F250's.

Thanks Paul, the letter from Ford was specific to the 2004 model only, but I take Brians comments regarding the Tow bar as being the governing factor

Eric,
I believe some folk may forget the difference between 4x2 & 4x4.
F250 -4x2 towing capacity-super & crew cabs conventional = 3500 kg.
single cab = 4500 kg.
Fifth wheel capacity...........................super cab = 4082 kg.
crew cab = 3946 kg.
single cab = 6078 kg.
F250 - 4x4 towing capacity - single-super-crew cabs
conventional = 4500 kg.
Fifth wheel capacity..........................super cab = 5443 kg.
crew cab = 4717 kg.
single cab = 6033 kg.
The above capacities were taken from the "Ford" specification brochure.
Hope this has helped you out. Naturally you would have to have a 4500 kg hitch fitted for conventional towing.
Cheers,
Curly.
