I know that there are a lot of variations to this question, but just generally what petrol consumption MPG/KPL do you get from a Land Cruiser 100 series V8 Petrol, pulling an 18ft Van (Bushtracker)

Hey Cobber,

Had one of those guzzlers for 5 years. With a good tail wind in flat country you'll get about 25 litres per 100km, towing at 90km/h.

In a headwind this will be about 33km/h and you'll struggle to maintain 90km/h.

If you are heading generally uphill, say from Sydney or Brisbane to Tenterfield or Orange, and there's a westerly wind blowing, it'll be approaching 40 litres per 100km.

With a turbo diesel you can subtract 10 to 12 litres per 100km off the above figures,

Safe travels.............Rob

Had a 4.5l patrol on autogas. 35l/100 when towing was the norm and poor performance.

Now have a chipped 4.2TD LC100 which chews 20l/100 without effort.

If you have a need to tow, diesel is the way.

I agree that diesel is the way to go & if I could find a low mileage LC100 TD for a reasonable price I would buy one.

We currently tow our 19' BT (3500kg fully loaded) with a petrol 6 LC100 and average around 27l/100km at around 90kph. Best would be 25(rare) worst 30 (rare). Premium unleaded when available gives >10% better fuel economy. Performance in hilly country is embarrassing.

Forget petrol, let some more moths out of the wallet (I should follow my own advice) and buy a TOYOTA diesel.

We are keeping this vehicle until Toyota bring out a 200 Series with a load carrying capacity of more than 800kg. I believe it is currently 640kg for the GXL. The ARB GVM upgrade of around an extra 300kg would be great however I understand that I then have to extract that 300kg from the caravan to stay within the GCM limit which remains unchanged. I carry a few toys like Porta-bote, 2 x kayaks, roof racks, plus common 'stuff' like steel bullbar, extra batteries, fridge, drawer system with basic recovery gear etc, tow-hitch and BT towball weight plus passengers at 150kg so the 800+ kg payload is easily reached.

Rumour has it that I may be rewarded next year with an RV style 200 series with improved load carrying capacity.

Godd luck in your search for a good DIESEL.

Cheers
Greg

I have a 200 series V8 TTD with 10,500 kms on the clock and have been towing an 18 ft BT @ 2750 kgs for the past two months.
Kept all the consumption figures and it averages out to be 20L/100kms, not real good in my opinion.
Toyota said not to expect much more when towing.
Plenty of power and no problems so far.

Chris,

We are towing 20ft @ 3500 kgs for 30 months now in 5th gear, no OD, and have averaged close to yours. On the h'way we do 90 to 100 kph, the GPS is set for let me know when I am doing the max , so I would stick with it.

Cheers.

Am driving a 95 LC which has just done 506,000 (with original engine - non turbo) and am getting 28 kms/ltr. But I do have extractors and a Hydrogen Oxygen generator which improves the lower end torque a great deal. I tow an 18ft BT and can easily cruise at about 95kmh in undulating country and about 85 on the long flat.
