Frantic waving and lots of excitement, as I saw my first BT in over 12,000 km.

I was just heading towards Milparinka in NW NSW, when a convoy of towed housed (inc two BTs) appeared, heading South. I was bound for Mt Browne Woolshed, for ten days gold detecting.

I tried to raise them on Channel 40, but no response. I never know whether they want to stop and have a chat or what, so I check for brake lights - nothing this time though.

Hiya Willie,
Good to look at your words again and "NOPE" it wasn't us...unfortunately...we're locked into Motel Mode for the foreseeable future in Armidale.....Maybe next year...

When you get to Mt Browne, if you see the owners, say G'Day to Ray & Pam for us... I think they had a Kedron van last time we spoke to them. They were getting ready to shear 5000 sheep.

The dam up on the hill behind the old homestead ruin had some huge yabbies in it as did the dam with the dry blowers next to it, so drop your pots in if you have them with you.

Ray found a nugget in the dirt against the wall of the old homestead ruin when we were there...I reckon he "Salted" it there. It was the wall facing the dam uphill from the Homestead. He was using a little Garrett detector.....no accounting for style.

We didn't get lucky with nuggets for our week there....found plenty of bullets though...GASP.

Keep well
Cheers
Rick

G'day Rick,

I think the son Charlie is in charge of Mt Browne. I think his parents have bought a property down around Peterborough. By the way Charlie said he would not even wash his clothes in that dam, so I did not put my yabbie net in (I had brought it specially as you ordered). I am guessing there is some mining chemicals in there. Did you glow in the dark after eating your yabbies ?

There is a heap of rubbish everywhere within 200m of the house and it is not possible to detect successfully with a Minelab gold detector. He would have been OK on a large piece of gold with the coin detector, and the junk would not have bothered him as much.

I got 36 nuggets for the trip - all small though. Since we last talked, I have been detecting in WA for 3 weeks where I got 65 nuggets for over 2oz - by far my best effort to date - I think I am finally getting the hang of it !

I am doing better with gold stocks than with nuggets though ! Gryphon, Azumah and Silver Lake are going gangbusters and Troy is plodding along OK. How is the market treating you ? Any successes ?

Regards,

Willie.

Hi Willie,
Yes, how things change, we were there 2 years ago and would still be there if we had our way...loved the place and the pub in Milparinka has good food and a great atmosphere.

No I didn't glow in the dark but we didn't eat the yabbies from the house dam....we got ours at the dam by the dry blowers and that was where all the sheep drank from and they didn't glow after sunset Ha Ha Ha...

There was 2 other couples camped close to the house dam and they feasted long and hard on the yabbies there. Although we did meet up with them about a week later on the road to Coongie Lake and they had survived that long at least.

WOW you are the Gold Guru......I'm tagging along with you next time....you can find the gold and I'll collect the old bullets. TOP MARKS....

We bought this motel in March and sold our better performers to help pay for the contract costs of getting the sale of the motel processed.... We got out of A1 Minerals at 38.50 and did really well there and I sold Robust too soon at 125.00.... however I only paid 20.50 for them so I wasn't complaining about that.

Since then I've been consumed with our motel and getting it just the way we want it...really paying off for us too as we have increased the occupancy to 78% in our 6 months of ownership and so many regular and repeat guests on a steadily increasing client base.

We were hoping to take a couple of weeks off when it got quieter in November, but it looks like we'll have to use that break time to go to QLD to sort out my mother's estate.

She was admitted to hospital on my birthday ( August 5th) and passed away 20 days later. (Cancer) I had to make the funeral arrangements from here in Armidale and Julie looked after the motel whilst I made several trips to QLD to see my mother before she passed away. So Sad.

Now it will be next year before we can hook up the BT and head bush.

How is your 200 series going?? Are you having any of the oil usage & tail shaft clunk problems that the earlier ones suffered??? How does "ELVIS" like being pulled so quickly??

We're thinking of getting one next year and were hoping they might have been first of the model problems that may have been rectified by now.

Well Mate.....if you're cruising through Armidale at any time, pop in for a chat and we'll put the billy on.

Cheers
Rick

Hi Rick & Julie,

Trish and I were sorry to hear about your Mum, please accept our condolences.

We are in Halls Creek at present on our way around the block, didn't go thru Armidale this time or we would have stopped to say hello. This is the first time in WA for both of us and the mountains and scenery are just incredible.

Next time we are up your way be assured we will stop and visit.

Cheers, Stan

Hi Stan & Trish,
Thanks for your kind words and thoughts, the last 6 years had not been all that good for "Barbie" and it was a late diagnosis as she had had enough of doctors and tests etc.

We were aiming to get to W.A next year ourselves as Julie's cousin and her husband are taking 2 months off to see the Kimberleys and wanted us to tag along. They're leaving Brisbane at Easter 2011, but we jumped in here and bought this motel in March and are now in the middle of a refurbish and re-organise plan that keeps us pretty busy.

We also decided to get a new vehicle before we set off on another big trip and setting it up will take time too. It really does look like we won't be ready to shoot off to the Kimberleys by Easter.

How are you liking your 200 series and have you had any of the problems that seem to be getting publicity?

We'd love to see you both if you are in the region.
Enjoy the West......can you tell that we're jealous??
Cheers
Rick

Hi all,
We are planning to travel from Qld into Nth NSW in the next few weeks and the mention of Yabbies and Gold caught our attention.
Could you please give us some details on the Mt. Browne Woolshed as mentioned in your post, ie, where, in relation to Milparinka, is permission required, or any details relevant to access?
Cheers,
Ken

Ken,

Mt Browne is 18 km west of Milparinka. It costs $10 a day per person to detect there and a bit more per person if you use the showers and toilets at the woolshed.

Payment is to Charlie the owners son or to the Milparinka Info Centre - (also a great place to spend half an hour).

Permission is not required - you just drive in. Ask at the info centre for directions.

Willie.
