Hi
We are trying to decide if we would ever watch TV outside. When we did the East-West with three other BTs, on a few nights we all watched a movie. We froze it was so cold but we were determined to watch the movie to the end. If we were alone - no way Jose!
To go to the other extreme: nice to warm weather. We have never watched TV outside; however, my initial reaction is that instead of watching TV you would be watching the bugs and moths on the screen.
Who does it and enjoys watching TV at night outside?

Jay,
Maybe you shouldn't sit outside in the Naturalist way and you wouldn't be so cold.
But seriously if I was getting a new caravan built I would have it on the removable mount inside on the left side of the caravan. Then have a tube big enough to take the power, antenna and speaker cables through the wall of the van into what would be the annex area.
Have the same mounting bracket that is inside the van on the outside and you can have inside or outside TV for very little extra. Just a bit more cable, 1 extra bracket and the tubing through the wall.

Brian, BT installs, if we want, an outside junction box that includes 240V power points, 12V power point, and the tv bracket and a place to plug the TV. Very neat package. The question is whether I really want/need that package.

Brian
At the end of the day the extra cost is minimal by comparison with the overall cost and if you don't do it you will regret it. When you have done it you will forget what the extra cost was. Go for it because you obviously believe you want it.
I assure that you will find it very convenient. Nice sitting outside on a hot night watching the news etc.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

gooday Jay,
Probably one of the best nights we spent on the road was at Hahn Crossing on the side of the river with a few cold ones and friends watching Hell Freezes Over (The Eagles) under the stars. For the extra few dollars even though we dont use it very often it is very good to have. Watching Qld belt NSW in state of origin was another great night with friends.

Hi All,
I must admit that we still remember the nights we sat outside with the group during our East-West crossing and watched TV. Good thoughts here and on the Caravaners
Forum. Now I will discuss with BT.

We had ours fitted when van was new [May 2007] and we use the external TV probably 20% compared to inside, but wouldnt be without it. Watching Footy on an afternoon and Movies outside under the stars at night is nice.

Hi Jay
The outside connection is great we always watch TV or Foxtel outside especially with a great sunset across some water as a backdrop.
Just upgraded the 17inch flat to the new 22 inch flat from SIM, great improvement in picture quality.
Go for it mate.
Best wishes Scott and Jacky
PS Would love to see the F450 if you are passing the Central Coast NSW.

Hey Jay and Jackie,
On our last trip around southern capes, Kangaroo Island and Corner Country we didn't even take the TV and were rewarded with a nice campfire, positive and funny conversations, much laughter, great company, good bottles of wine, and watched the sunset and the stars. A half hour of morning ABC on the wireless and one newspaper every two weeks kept us fully informed with what was happening elswhere. The other 23 or so hours a day was just bliss.
With the TV, it spoilt the campfire, was full of negative and sad conversations and political crap, and didn't give us any company. We still enjoyed the wine and part of the sunset, but didn't notice any stars, and, we had less sleep!.
TV can stay at home.
Cheers.............Rob and Liz
