Is there anyone that knows anything about the battery charger in the bushtracker. We have just replaced batteries and now the charger is not charging on 240 volt. Is working fine on Solar we have batteries on correct polarity. Charger makes a noise but not charging. Wondered if anyone knows where to get them serviced or repaired.

regards John

Hi John
Firstly is it the charger that BT installs. If so the manufacturer is Omegalec Electronics, Factory is at 304 Keira St, Wollongong NSW - Keith - (02)4229 6077

What has happened in the past is if you send it back to Keith he will check it out and service at no cost. You just pay the postage which is about $28 each way. It is a service he offers to Bushtracker owners. Check first as the last time i used his services was 12 months ago.

Hi John,

We had a similar problem with ours,(2007 built van) ended up just an internal fuse was blown. Can be changed over by first turning off the power and remove the plug .

Then remove the charger and unscrew cover to remove same .

You should find a fuse holder inside, check and replace if blown with same size fuse .

Check other hold down nuts while cover removed , our main (large)coil was loose

Hope this is of helps to you .

Our battery charger is about a 2004 model as we upgraded to the 50Amp when we added a 4th battery.

We have had a blown fuse but ours is inside the Black screw in knob on the outside of the box so it is easy to get at. It is a special thermal one I think with a coil inside the fuse but I was able to get replacement and spares at an electrical supply shop.

We also had a broken Red wire inside the charger that appeared to have broken off the connector due to vibrations. I soldered some flexible wire to it and it has been working find for the last few years.

Greetings, the same happened to us in our 2006 BT. Much angst and inspections followed. This was not suposed to be possible, according to the experts. An auto electician and I kept looking and found ONE BLACK wire inside the charger, whick LOOKED OK, but was broken. Once replaced, all worked well. It did cost me four ruined batteries, plus the autoelectrician. No problem now for 18 months.
Hope this adds to your search. Look very carefully at the wires.

Had early problems with our Omegalec. I am NOT an electrical genius, but being mechanically minded and needing to take some sort of action and being remote I took the cover off and saw two broken wires. One very fine and one very heavy. Having soldering (gas heated) tools on board I would have had a go BUT for the fact that the fine (black) onehad broken off right at the circuit board. So the Kununara (SP?) radio Tech ably did it for me.
2nd episode occured 2 years later and so I did it this time AND strengthened the single stand off holding the circuit board to the frame by making two more stand offs AND made better mid span supports for all wires. I can send you pics if you wish. MIND YOU, what happened to ours may well be different to yours!

Thanks to all of those people who replied to our post re battery charger. It turned out to be a loose positive terminal nut which I tightend and also tightened the large nut on the large coil. Bingo ..... everything working fine now.

cheers John

Well Done John.

With the help of the BOG and the process of elimination ,we can really save some time , money and get more confidence fixing our own BTs.
