Hi Keith,

Wait a while & you'll collect a few more to compliment this one!

It's my experience that the BT stone guard does not provide sufficient protection no matter how far out or in it is placed.

I'll be replacing mine with a set of Stone Stompers.

Stone Stompers won't stop stones thrown at you by passing trucks.
Wear the dents as a badge of experience.

We've got quite a few on ours - mostly up higher. They are all marks to show the van has been taken where it was made to be; by us and previous owners. Wear it with pride.

Ah war wounds.......give it some time and you'll get a few more.

When our van was not very old I had a step ladder leaning against the rear side of the skin. I raised the front with the jockey wheel and you wouldn't believe it when the rear went down as the front went up the step ladder ripped a hole in the skin. Bloody hell what a stupid thing to do.
So I filled the hole with Sika with the idea of a permanent repair later. Well later has never happened and that was ten years ago.

Got a few more war wounds since.
If you want to keep your van looking like new, leave it in the garage.

Yup Ernie - that was pretty dumb - worthy of a "Poor Dunb Bastard' award - almost up to my standard :-)

I can attest to the excellent sealing qualities of Sikaflex we had piercing puncture caused by a ricochet - as far as we can establish a rock spun off from one of the vehicle wheels - flew out sideways and richcheted (how do you spell that?) off something and punched a golf ball sized hole at the top, and just forward, of the rear door. We had not seen another vehicle for a few days so dicounted the 'passing truck' theory. Been Sika'd ever since.

Hi Guys

when we had our van built we had the van front done in line-x from a company that was just up the road from BT.
It is a product they use on mining equipment and as ute liners. you can throw a golf ball at it and the van will not dent.

They could fill the dent and then put the product over then two pack colour match as ours was done from new.

We did this 4 years ago and the front still looks brand new no dents even after hearing many hits after passing road trains..

Dents are a badge of honour except when you go to sell the van, Then they are a discount bargaining point.

Best wishes Scott.

Scott, thanks heaps for this info.

We'll be back in Kunda Park next year and I'll definitely look into this.

Our BT suffered really badly on some gravel roads (as I mentioned above) and you are absolutely correct about the impact on resale values.

For the new owners - those without 'badges of honour' yet to adorn the front end, it is worth making sure your screen is set in the correct place.

Take a string line from the base of your rear wheel and extend it in a straight line across the top of the stone guard to see where it intersects with the front of the van.

If you have an extended drawbar you may have to move it forward a bit - just loosen the locking bolts and twitch it forward. This can leave the front gas bottle area a little exposed. I got a local canvan/upholstery plave to make up a section to cover this area and tensioned with lacky strops - seems to work well.

And finally if you are serious about trying to minimise damage - on narrow or single lane tracks that are used by big cattle trucks etc then - get right off the track and let him stay on the best bit of the road be it gravel ot tar. Give em a call on the UHF and let them know what you are doing. It is also the safest option for both of you. They will appreciate it, after all you are on holiday and they are working.
