G'day All,
Just back from a 18 month trip to W.A. Now time for the full clean up etc,etc etc. I remember reading somewhere about something to put into the Thetford cassette to remove all the build up and such. Have done a Quick Search and can't find the posting I'm thinking of. Could anybody refresh my memory please ?
Lawrie.

Lawrie,

I don't know what it was that was mentioned, but I removed all the pieces that were removable and then used the gernie.

Silicon or similar spray on lubricant works well on the moving parts.

I had to use "CLR" in my cassette after a very long trip into areas where the water is very calcified. That removed some then I had to use a scraper to finish off the harder bits. Fosilised c#*p I believe. Just remember there are some very delicate bits inside and too vigorous an effort could be costly.
I couldn't find anyone else who wanted to do the job either.
happy cleaning

I think it should be re-classified as a PINK job.

Hi,

I have found a tablespoon of citric acid and fill the cassette with water then turn it upside down and let it soak for 3 or 4 days, give it a shake but not too vigorous, then empty.

Repeat if necessary after inspection. Happy cleaning!!!!!!!

G'day Lawrie,

I found it difficult to find the angle to turn to, to remove the filler pipe, valve and air vent for cleaning. So, when I did find the angle, I took some photos and they can be seen in "Pictures" under Tellem Bugrem... then scroll down to Thetford.

I use a Tri-Nature product called Supre for cleaning and it does a good job. When re-assembling I smear olive oil on all rubber parts.

The unit has survived 10 years of at least 3 months per year and is in excellent condition.

sewer you later.............Rob

hi, we stick to the home brand napisan, using that in the top & bottom tanks and the results are clean tanks whenever we empty & flush. Olive oil on the rubber seal also.

Mick and Vickie are spot on. To clean a badly soiled tank with built up fuzz do the following:

Take three to four tablespoons of the Nappi-soaker (Coles and Woolies home brand version of Nappisan) and mix thorougherly with 1-2 litres of warm water. Stir thoroughly to disovle. Tip it into the tank an dfill right to the top with water and give it a shake to mix. Leave for 12 - 24 hours themn MT and rinse well. Should be spotless and even smell good!

The active ingrediant is Sodium Percarbonate and when mixed with water breaks down in sodium peroxide and soda ash. After a couple of days it is safe to tip into septic tanks and I believe it is recommended by the Barrier Reef EPA.

The active ingrediant is 34% ww in the el-cheap brand but only 24% in branded Nappisan - which is also three times more expensive.

Good for soaking soiled clothes, general cleaning jobs and is a very good disinffecting agent - rinse the veggie and fruit and they will last longer in the fridge.

Cheers John
