The new digital satellite service is now up and running and is available for travellers.
All the digital channels currently available in eastern states capital cities are now available from satellite. A new decoder and card is required, with no ongoing costs.
Further information at www.satplus.com.au.
(Please note the Victorian office is closed for the next 2 weeks.)

Some caution may be required, or wait for more choices of Set Top Box.

I'll wait for another brand of receiver to come onto the market.
A 12v Strong would be nice. The cheap UEC needs to be rescanned after a power failure and the signal strength will not show till it's done(cart before the horse).
Have not found if a card can be purchased separately ie not with the receiver.

The new box & card doesn't cost telephone numbers. There will always be a better device coming. Look at the computer industry.
If you want access to digital FTA satellite TV while travelling now, go for it. Enjoy, & upgrade later if you need to. If you don't need it now, wait & there will probably
be more options.
The Austar boxes need to reboot each time, which I haven't found to be a problem. Auto seek dishes make life easy. I do understand the problem about a manual seek dish.
