Please be aware, It is actually possible to lock your keys "remote" in the vehicle. The scenario was as follows- I locked the car on the beach and went fishing. After about an hour i was getting hot.I returned to the car and unlocked the back door behind the driver, placed my jacket with the remote in the pocket on the back seat. As i was walking away from the car, all doors locked automaticaly!!
Toyota have a "security" system whereby, if you dont open one of the FRONT doors within thirty seconds the entire car is relocked. I have confirmed this fact with toyota. I have now removed one of the manual keys supplied with the remote and wired it up underneath the vehicle. This will solve the problem. Fortunately, this time the problem occurred 5 minutes from home and my wife brought down the spare key, not in the middle of nowhere. PLEASE BE WARNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi mick, My vehicle is a 2008 gxl. I thought i might have had a warranty problem, but Mandurah Toyota tested the system and said it was "normal". I would be intersted to get more feedback from other cruiser owners.
Cheers mate.

Hi Spydor,
Our 2010 Anniversary 200 Cruiser just screams at us if we try your scenario and refuses to lock.

Regards,
David

I have a 2007 GXL.

I just went out to the garage, with my keys in my pocket. I locked all the doors by pushing on the black button on the driver's door handle.

I then opened the rear right passenger door, which unlocked because I had my keys in my pocket, and put the keys on the seat and closed the door.

After 2 minutes nothing had happened and the doors were still all unlocked.

Have you been using the door lock rocker switch on the drivers arm rest? In our other car (not a Toyota) if we have used that internal door locking switch while driving (anti-carjack function), after we get out of the car, without locking it, it will lock itself. Nothing in the owners manual about it at all.

I own a 2006 toyota sahara100 series and ours is exactly the same after 30 seconds if you don't open any of the 4 doors they self lock again if you only open the back door and no other they still self lock exactly what the owner's manual says

Thanks for all the feedback. It would appear that my vehicle has an electrical problem with the locking system. I only know of one other vehicle with the same problem. I am disappointed with the response that i recieved at Mandurah Toyota. As i stated in my previous reply, the service department checked my vehicle and after it locked itself automatically, they stated that this was "normal" operation.
In my opinion this is far from satisfactory. I will be back at mandurah Toyota after the easter break, WISH ME LUCK!!

Spydor,

does it make any difference if you initially lock the doors using the button on the door handle or by pushing the lock button on the remote control?

I haven't tried it, myself.

cheers

Spydor, Spoke to my mate again about this, he said the only way he can lock keys in car .... is if his wifes keys are in car and he uses the lock function on his remote outside the vehicle, the car will lock.

Stephen, thanks for the feedback. i have just been out to the car and tried locking it with the remote and also by pushing the black button on the door. In both cases when the rear door is opened and then closed, the entire car relocks in 30 seconds. I really don,t have enough hair left to pull out!!

Spydor,

We are in Cowaramop at present, just went out and locked our 2008 model, waited for a while then opened the back door and reclosed it, waited again but it didn't lock itself.
Metinks you should find another Toyota dealer or Customer Relations at TMCA 02 97103333.

Cheers, Stan

THANKS FOR ALL THE FEEDBACK. I am now aware of the fact that the diagnosis that i received from mandurah toyota was totally wrong. therefore the warning that i posted is no longer valid. sorry for the inconvenience, but thanks again for all your input. if it was not for you letting me know that not all cruisers have the problem. i would not have the evidence in writing that i am now going to confront Mandurah Toyota with !!
Cheers
Spydor & Robyn
