We are thinking of updating our tug down the track to a 200 series. I am wondering do I stay with 16 inch rims which are on our 100 series or go with17 inch?

We currently have 16 inch on the van.

What is the easiest to obtain out bush?

Any comments would be great.

cheers

I don't think you can get 16 inch rims on the 200. I believe they are only 17 or 18.

We have 17 inch on our 200. Replacement tyres were very scarce when the 200 first came out but there are some choices these days. Finding a tyre to the correct specs was the problem.

Bob,
The GXL comes standard with 17 inch rims. the VX & SAHARA have 18 inch. If you have a choice stick with the 17 inch. Not only is there more choice of tyres available
But in the sand, the higher profile allows you to let the tyre down and therefore have a bigger "footprint". This makes life a lot easier when towing through sand or just driving up the beach. Hope this helps!

p.s I have a mate with a VX, and he is trying to buy 5 17 inch rims (NOT CHEAP)

Hullo Bob,

As said above, 16" rims won't fit the 200 series.

If you buy a GXL it will have 17" rims, VX and Sahara have 18".

If you look at aftermarket 17" wheels to replace the 18" OEMs, ROH make a lookalike 17" rim and it seems that about $215 will buy you one. That's a pretty good price compared to what people want for original Toyota 17" rims.

If you specify 17" rims on your new van, also specify ones with zero offset, that will allow them to be used as spares for the Cruiser, even though they will stick out just a tiny bit. You should also choose a tyre that will have the same rolling circumference as the original 285/60X18 Toyota Dunlops. 275/65X17 will do this.

There's no rush to replace the 18" wheels and Dunlops on the Cruiser though. You should get at least 50,000kms out of them which will give you plenty of time to research options and prices. To me, the important thing is to get the wheels and tyres right for the van, so that you essentially have the backup of the two spares on the van, as spares for the Cruiser.

Get in touch with BT in Kunda Park and find out where they get their zero offset wheels from. I've found the outlet in WA (not that that will help you at the moment). They are Gecko Wheels, 17X8, zero offset, 5 X 150 stud pattern to suit a Landcruiser. Over here, I've been given a price of $125 and they are available in black, white and silver. BT use the silver ones, but black would look cool too.

My source can also provide tyres at a very good price. Korean Hero brand Dynastorm A/T, 275/65X17, 1215kg load rating, 180kph speed rating for $170. They will certainly do for the van, although if I change my Cruiser wheel to 17" rims I will go for Bridgestone D697s.

Hope that helps.

Just a bit more info to confuse you. I am running 285/70 Pro Comp a/t tyres on my cruiser. I have two GPS units in the vehicle , and with the above mentioned tyres (size) the speedo is spot on with no margin at all.
