Hi everyone
We are leaving toowoomba to go to the cape in july with 4 other couples and we would like to free camp as much as possible along the way. Yes i do have Camp 6 but i know there are alot of places that are not in the book. YOUR HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS APPRICIATED . We would also like to know if anyone has any suggestions on where we could store our BT somewhere between cains and cape as we have dont want to take it all the way as our friends are only driving 4x4 and we dont want to be slowed down. as they only have 4 weeks holiday, we are lucky we travel full time.

thanks everyone

Camps 7 is now available, which may help.

Van storage available in Cairns at First City Caravilla, and I'm sure other parks as well.

Departing Toowoomba, but which way are you heading inland or coastal?

About 10kms north of Eidsvold at Cereatodus is a nice little free camp. If heading towards Rockhampton the there is a gravel pad at the Wowan turn off on the Capricorn Hwy it is avarage but enough room for several vehicles, it is right on the highway, Rocky via Mt Morgan, I would advise against as the road on the range has collapsed and forces you down the razor back and thats probably not smart.

If staying inland and heading up say from Dingo then be prepared for wide and slow loads, on Monday I was out that way and there were 6 wide loads the largest 9m and 280 ton, they do not get off the road even slightly.

Next stop would be close to Mackay so someone else may be able to help. I'ts hard to help as I sort of dont know how many kms a day you will travel, I usually like to target 400 kms a day when I heading to WA

Storage try the Palmer River Roadhouse or Musgrave Station.

thank you for all replies, all information has been taken on board. We are in no hurry just depends on what we find on the way ,but our friends only have 4 weeks away. on our way back we will probably look for some work for my old man and park up somewhere hopefully free camp somewhere where i can fish.
Thanks again , anymore thoughts keep them coming .

Happy Travelling everyone

We are Toowoomba based, took van to Cape in 2010 and could give you lots of pointers. Flying to Cairns for Easter be happy to get together after April 7.
