We are looking for a free camp or farm stay between Roma and Emerald as camps 7 does not appear to be much help.
WE are travelling with friends in a TA TA van, so are looking for something no further than 5 to 6 km from Carnarvon HWY
Any ideas please
Thanks

Hi Scott and Jacky
I do not know of anything good along that route. We ended up overnight in a fairly open rest area between Emerald and Springsure. Emerald side of Springsure there is a rest area with toilet at Virgin Rock turnoff. I love the way it says No camping but caravans permitted to stay overnight, and number of them did. Again, alongside the highway.
We stayed at the Injune Caravan Park.

There is a large pulloff area sometimes used by trucks north of injune just before going down the range. Plenty of room to get well off the road and out the back. Stayed there a few times.
It is on the right travelling north - watch for signs indicating you are about to go down the range. I think it is also signposted as a parking area.
There is also a place just before stairway range before you get to Springsure.
There is also a rest area about 5 km north of Springsure with toilets but very close to highway.

Hi Scott and Jacky
About 60k North of Injune there's a large disused Main Roads area on the Eastern side of the Highway (???). You could quite probably park about 10 BT's there.
Albeit that its right next to the Highway, the blue metal piles that run parallel to the road protect you from any road noise plus provide a fair degree of privacy.
We did an overnight there in January.
Regards
Leigh

The Blue metal pile sounds good to us.

Roma showgrounds are good for a power stop, $20.00 / night. About 60 km north of Injune is the Wallaroo Stn truck stop, as others have said just before you go down the range, there is asign to Wallaroo Stn about 1 km on the southern side of the stop. The owner usually does a drive past about 5 pm to count how many are parked up. Don't forget to leave a note / message in the Bundy Bottle in the hollow log near the history board. Plenty of room for vans on solid standing we have used it twice before going into Carnarvon NP for the day. Virgin Rock (Lions Park) 1 km north of Injune is ok too, the section of ground where the septic trench is the area of NO CAMPING, the rest is ok for 24 hrs. Check the rock after dark and Freds Gorge behind the rock by day.
