Hi, we would love to purchase a Bushtracker if anyone knows of any 16 to 17ft secondhand vans for sale. We are limited to this size because our tow vehicle is 2004 Nissan Patrol 4.2lt TD, which only has a 2500kg towing capacity! Cheers

That weight is a big ask. Our 17' BT has a Tare of 2580Kg, and fully loaded is well on the way to 3,500Kg.

Hi Maccas

Check out the prospect of a H/D tow bar upgrade.
I think I am right when I say that there is an upgrade available that will allow you to tow a 19Ft BT with a Nissan Patrol 4.2 TD.
If memory serves correctly the upgrade covers up to 3500kg double axle electric braked.
6 X 4 will take the Nissan up to 4500 GVM capability.
We originally towed our 19ft with the same vehicle in drop side ute, and subsequently upgraded the vehicle to 6 X 4 configuration to allow us to carry extra water. Found that the 6 x 4 setup overcame any tendency to want to sway in some situations. We also went up to Sunrasia wide tyres.

Cheers

Check your weights. A 4.2l Nissan Patrol is rated to tow 3500kg, the same as a Toyota 100/200 series. We towed our 19' Bushtracker with a 4.2l Patrol for the last 5 years.

At a rough guess Mick I reckon they may have a 4.2 Ute which only has a 2500kg rating.

Try to get one with a East West queen bed. It saves heaps of room in our 16 footer.

I searched for 7 months for my 16 and then only got it because I rang the seller in Queensland at 7.00am - before 2 other buyers got onto them.

The 16 is great to tow and will go a lot of places the bigger Bushtrackers cannot get to. I don't need to use those weight distribution thingies either.

A note of warning. Early 16s had a weak, small section drawer bar. Mine did and it broke into two bits and has now been replaced with the section they put on the larger vans.

Cheers,

Willie.
